Coping with the Loss of a Patient to Suicide

SPI and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) are making a joint effort to help therapists deal with the loss of a patient to suicide. Click here to see Therapists Reaction to the Suicide of a Patient, an audio-slide presentation by Dr. Herbert Hendin. SPI is conducting workshops in which APA members come to New York to speak with experienced clinicians about their cases and the problems connected with the loss. Further information about issues covered in the workshop is available in the audio-slide presentation. Psychiatrists who have participated have found it particularly helpful in dealing with their loss and a valuable learning experience in treating suicidal patients. If you are interested in participating please send an email expressing your interest to ochechina@spiorg.org.
