 Zach Iscol | Zach Iscol, SPI’s CEO, is the writer, director, and producer of The Western Front, a documentary about the war in Iraq based on his personal experiences. The film was screened as part of the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Zach joined the Marines, fought in the battle of Fallujah, and became a decorated officer. He went back to Iraq to film the war while it was still raging. Since leaving active duty he has worked with Non-Government Organizations, advocacy groups, and US Government Agencies to aid Iraqi refugees and provide asylum to those in need -- especially employees and translators who have risked their lives serving alongside US and Coalition forces in Iraq. In 2007, he testified, while on active duty, before the United States Senate about the need to protect and provide asylum to our vital Iraqi allies and partners. He has a strong interest in SPI’s efforts to reduce suicide among combat veterans by improving the care they receive. Zach is also a founding partner of Super Sprowtz, a creative children's entertainment company and the founder/CEO of an early stage online employment talent matching company, Recruit Citizens. |
 Claudia Ullman | Claudia Ullman, Chair of SPI, is a Principal in A-C Acquisitions LLC, a family-owned real estate business with properties in New York and Texas. She was the Founding Editor of Family Literacy Forum, a peer-reviewed journal for literacy practitioners published by the New York State Education Department and served as Literacy Consultant for the Department as well as the Robert Bowne Foundation. From 1993-2003 she was Director of Family Literacy Programs at The Institute for Literacy Studies for The City University of New York. In that capacity she established and directed innovative intergenerational literacy programs in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. |
 Edward Dunne, Ph.D. | Edward J. Dunne, Ph.D. is the Director of Survivor Initiatives for Suicide Prevention International (SPI). He has been a member of the faculties of both Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and Downstate Medical Center, as well as a senior faculty member of the Ackerman Institute for the Family. He is a past president of the American Association of Suicidology and helped that organization focus attention on survivor needs. He has been honored by national and international organizations for his groundbreaking work with survivors of suicide; most recently he received the Survivors Award of Suicide Prevention International. He is currently leading SPI’s efforts to develop and implement programs for those bereaved by the suicide of a loved one. |
 Herbert Hendin, MD | Herbert Hendin, M.D. is Medical Director at Suicide Prevention International (SPI) and Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College. He has been the Principal Investigator on studies of suicide in the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, and Hungary and in the U.S. among college students, the elderly, African Americans, and Vietnam veterans. He has also done extensive research in the areas of posttraumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and assisted suicide. The many awards he has received for his work include the prestigious Louis I. Dublin Award of the American Association of Suicidology for “distinguished contributions to our knowledge of suicide.” He is one of two U.S. experts on suicide prevention selected by WHO to advise and assist WHO in its global suicide prevention activities.  Kathy Karich | Kathy Karich has more than 20 years of financial and managerial experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Currently she is a Principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP; the firm acquired BearingPoint, Inc., a major international management and technology company where she was Vice President and Managing Director. In 1986 she worked with Dr. Herbert Hendin in organizing the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, of which SPI is an outgrowth. She has been serving as Treasurer of SPI and will continue to serve in that capacity. |
 Caren Lerner, J.D. | Caren Lerner is a practicing attorney in the litigation department at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC, a law firm headquartered in New York. She organized and serves as Chair of SPI's Junior Committee (JSPI), which focuses on youth suicide prevention and survivor support. Caren organized SPI's Junior Committee to serve two main goals: (1) to build a community of support for young people who have lost a loved one to suicide, and (2) to provide support and resources to young people interested in helping to prevent youth suicide. |
 David Petrucco | David Petrucco is a Managing Partner of Kayne Anderson's credit investment activities. Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2008, Mr. Petrucco was a Managing Director of Blackstone's Corporate Debt Group. Prior to joining Blackstone in 2006, Mr. Petrucco was a Managing Director of RBS Securities in New York City as the head of the leveraged loan, high yield bond, and mezzanine securities distribution group. Before joining RBS in 2002, Mr. Petrucco spent 10 years at UBS Securities, in a number of different departments in both the US and UK. Mr. Petrucco is involved in other military related charities, including the Special Operations Fund in Washington DC. He is married to his wife Wana and has two children William and Samantha and resides in Short Hills, New Jersey. Mr. Petrucco received a B.A. in Economics from Boston College in 1989. |
 Albert Rabil | Mr. Rabil is the managing partner of Kayne Anderson's real estate private equity activities, where he oversees the origination, execution and management of private investments in various specialized niche real estate sectors, primarily off-campus student housing at public universities. Prior to joining Kayne Anderson in 2007, Mr. Rabil founded, and was a principal of, two real estate investment firms, RAMZ, LLC and Rabil Properties, between 2002 and 2007. During this time Mr. Rabil developed and acquired more than $250 million of student housing projects. In 1994, Mr. Rabil joined the Real Estate Banking Group of UBS, and later became head of the Real Estate Banking Group for the Americas and Europe until early 2002. In this period, he made UBS a market leader in syndicated debt and large loan CMBS, with over $25 billion in completed transactions. Mr. Rabil earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1985 and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University in 1988. |
