Every seat at every available table was filled at SPI's third annual Life Lines Luncheon on November 16th, 2011 at the University Club.  Funds raised at the Luncheon are going toward our work to reduce suicicde among combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Luncheon was a moving event with the climax being the remarks of Captain Zach Iscol about his experiences at the battle of Fallujah in the war in Iraq. Colonel Willard Buhl, guest speaker, gave a powerful and convincing presentation of the problems faced by combat veterans.

We were able to announce at the Luncheon that SPI CEO Dr. Herbert Hendin and SPI have received a major grant for our work with the veterans from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.  In addition, we announced a partnership with Gary Sinise and the Gary Sinise Foundation to work together to raise funds for our respective work on behalf of veterans.  Also attending were Paul Rieckhoff, the Executive Director of IAVA, the national organization of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and a number of combat veterans from Milvets, a group of military veterans and students at Columbia University who have been picked for scholarships funded by the VA and Columbia.
